Charlotte NC Newmans — Torrie Slone Newman produced the brightest
spot in the family’s year with the advent of Erika Ann Newman on June 20,
2001. She had an emergency C-section two weeks early because Erika was breech
and weighed 9 pounds, 13 ounces. But she was fine and is truly beautiful. Her
big brother Lukas told his mommy, “Thank you Mommy for my baby sister.”
And he really meant it. Torrie says that Erika enjoys her belly time while
exploring with her hands as far as her arms will allow and then some. She has
been attempting to travel on her belly and turning and pulling with her hands to
get what she wants, especially big brother Lukas’ toys and now the Christmas
tree. She enjoys dropping off and picking up big brother at pre-school three
days a week. She thinks the world of her big brother and is only happy if he is
happy. Lukas is having fun at his second year of preschool. He enjoys art and
the playground. The day is measured on how many times they play outside. This
fall he played micro soccer for the first time. He had a great time playing and
scored a couple times too. Mom and Lukas have many play dates with his buddies
and trips to the library. He especially worked hard to print his name in order
to get his “own” library card. He is also an authority on trains. He visited the
train exhibit at the Junior Museum in Panama City during Thanksgiving and told
the operator all about the trains. Needless to say the man was impressed.
Torrie’s husband Perry took on a new challenge this year at Microsoft and
moved to a new unit. After nearly ten years of supporting Excel he looks forward
to exploring the depths of Outlook and Exchange. Torrie continues to do a great
job keeping order at the home front and making sure Lukas is educated and
entertained by meeting the boy’s busy school and social calendar.
